Trading journal: Notion or PRAETIR?

A Notion journal can be designed freely. Specialized trading software comes with workflows organized around trades and analytics. Compare the total maintenance effort, not just the first attractive dashboard.

What Notion provides

Notion supports database properties such as dates, numbers, selections, files and formulas, as well as relations between databases. These can support a custom journal model. The structure and reconciliation rules still need to be designed for your trading data.

Outline a useful data model

Separate trading day, position and execution when partial fills or multiple accounts are involved. Relate each position to its day and its executions to the position. Use unique IDs. One row per screenshot is insufficient for accurate fee and position accounting.

Check especially whether re-importing a record creates duplicates. Additional automation can simplify the workflow, but needs its own setup and validation. A flexible database does not automatically supply the broker connection you need.

Test maintenance and analysis on the same week

Document the same complete week in your Notion setup and the intended PRAETIR version. Reconcile net profit, fees and trade count. Then assess the effort required to correct a record, compare setups and retrieve chart evidence.

Assess responsibility for the model

Notion is a reasonable option when you need a flexible structure and want to maintain calculations and data quality yourself. PRAETIR brings specialized journal and analytics workflows together; check its current import coverage and early-access scope. Both approaches require complete source records.

This comparison is published by PRAETIR. Notion information refers to its official documentation checked on September 12, 2026. It evaluates a workflow and does not claim universal superiority.
